Roanoke County lists August parks events for families and outdoor fans

Roanoke County Parks, Recreation and Tourism is heading into August with a short slate of family and outdoor events at county recreation destinations.

The calendar includes Tavern Stage Music Series at Explore Park from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, Aug. 7; Touch-A-Truck at Green Hill Park from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 8; a second Tavern Stage date from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, Aug. 21; and Insect Fest at Explore Park from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 29.

Touch-A-Truck is a particularly easy family outing for children who enjoy seeing public-service and work vehicles up close. Insect Fest offers a nature-focused option later in the month, while the Tavern Stage series provides an evening outdoor music stop.
