Roanoke neighborhoods prepare for National Night Out on Aug. 4

Roanoke neighborhoods will take part in National Night Out on Tuesday, Aug. 4, 2026, an annual community-building program that brings residents, neighborhood groups and public officials together.

The City of Roanoke says local neighborhood organizations and community groups are responsible for organizing their own gatherings. That means event times and locations will vary by neighborhood rather than follow one citywide schedule.

The city’s planning guidance lists block parties, cookouts, porch gatherings, flashlight walks, contests and youth activities among the ways neighborhoods can participate. Groups planning to use a nearby park or close a public street are directed to review the city’s assembly-permit instructions before the event.

Residents who want to find a local gathering should check with their neighborhood association or watch group. The city’s Office of Neighborhood Services also says it can help residents interested in starting a recognized neighborhood group; the office lists coordinator Molly Hunter at 540-853-6006.
