Salem Parkway nightly lane closures set Sept. 27-Oct. 1 in Winston-Salem

Drivers using Salem Parkway in Winston-Salem should expect nightly lane closures from Sunday evening, Sept. 27, through Thursday night, Oct. 1, while a contractor installs decorative streetlights on downtown bridges.

The City of Winston-Salem Department of Transportation said the work will affect the Church Street, Main Street, Liberty Street, Cherry Street, Marshall Street, Broad Street and Fourth Street bridges. One lane of travel will be closed each night as the work moves through the corridor, beginning with an eastbound lane and ending with a westbound lane on Oct. 1.

The city is encouraging motorists to use caution around crews and equipment and to allow additional travel time during the overnight work. The notices do not identify a full Parkway shutdown, but the lane restrictions may slow traffic near each bridge as installation progresses.

The fixtures will not be illuminated immediately after they are installed. The city expects additional pole and electrical-wiring work to continue for several weeks before the decorative lighting becomes operational.
