**Back-to-School Updates in Danville and Pittsylvania County: Exciting Changes Following Sales Tax Increase**
As students return to school in Danville and Pittsylvania County, significant improvements are underway, thanks to a 1% sales tax increase approved in previous years.
George Washington High School has undergone a remarkable transformation, featuring renovated classrooms, a state-of-the-art JROTC facility, and a brand-new track and field. Ongoing projects include the construction of a larger gymnasium and cafeteria to further enhance the educational environment.
Dr. Angela Hairston, Superintendent of Danville Public Schools, emphasized the positive impact of these upgrades, stating, “When our teachers and our staff members are excited and feel appreciated, they pass that along to the children. When the children are engaged and feel that you value them with great learning environments, the learning is just through the roof.”
Additionally, the sales tax increase has funded enhanced security measures throughout schools, including automatic locks on all doors and surveillance cameras in every classroom at both the high school and middle school levels. A new entrance monitor at the high school will also contribute to student safety.
These developments reflect a commitment to providing a safe and engaging learning environment for students in the Danville and Pittsylvania County school districts.
