Pittsylvania roadwork keeps Piney Forest and Route 311 on alert

VDOT's latest Lynchburg District traffic alert keeps Pittsylvania County drivers on notice for several active work zones near the Danville travel shed.

The district list says Route 629, also identified as Piney Grove Road, has a culvert-replacement closure affecting Piney Forest Road from Route 900, Glenland Road, to Route 630, Watlington Road. VDOT lists the closure as starting Monday, May 4, with completion expected near the end of June 2026.

The same alert also lists Route 817, Mountain Drive, as temporarily closed at the bridge over Turkeycock Creek, with a detour in place and completion expected in December 2026. Route 311, Harville-Saunders Parkway, remains under a road-widening project with temporary lane closures and flagging operations expected.

For Danville and Pittsylvania County drivers, the combined alerts matter because they affect both daily local access and longer rural connector routes. Motorists should treat the listed dates as weather-dependent and check VDOT's live 511 tools before relying on a route through any of the work areas.
