Greensboro residents and contractors using city disposal sites now have a personal protective equipment rule to follow before unloading.
The city says customers unloading items at the Greensboro Transfer Station and White Street Landfill must wear a high-visibility safety vest or reflective outerwear and closed-toed shoes or boots. The safety measure took effect June 1, 2026, and the city says customers who arrive without the required PPE may be denied access to the unloading area until they have proper equipment.
The Transfer Station is located at 6310 Burnt Poplar Road. The White Street Landfill is located at 2503 White Street.
- What to know: Flip flops and sandals do not meet the closed-toed footwear requirement.
- Who is affected: Residents, haulers, businesses and contractors who unload material at the city transfer station or landfill.
- Why it matters: The city says the rule is meant to reduce injury risks around moving vehicles, heavy equipment, uneven surfaces and sharp objects.
Customers with questions should check Greensboro's solid waste information or call the city's 336-373-CITY line before making a disposal trip.
