Greensboro drivers have several city-posted traffic changes to plan around during the second half of June.
The most immediate notice is on South Elm-Eugene Street. The city says one southbound lane of the 3500 block, from West Vandalia Road to West Lakefield Drive, is closed from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday, June 17, for hydrant repair work, with minor delays possible.
Greensboro's Transportation and Water Resources notices also list additional work windows. The city says West Market Street lane closures begin June 18 for crosswalk repair at West Market and Elm streets tied to the Greene Street streetscape project. On Huffine Mill Road, occasional lane closures and delays are scheduled from June 22 through August 10, between Peterson Avenue and 921 Huffine Mill Road, due to water-line rehabilitation work. The city also has a larger downtown pattern change coming when Greene Street converts to two-way traffic on June 29.
- What to know: Work zones may use cones, signs and short-term lane shifts, and schedules can move with weather or utility conditions.
- Who is affected: Downtown drivers, commuters using West Market or Elm, South Elm-Eugene travelers, Huffine Mill Road residents and delivery routes.
- Driver action: Use alternate routes where possible, slow down near crews and watch for updated markings before the Greene Street two-way switch.
Drivers should use the city's road-closures feed and Transportation page for the latest timing before heading into the work areas.
