Bradshaw Road bridge closure starts June 22 in Roanoke County

Roanoke County drivers who use Bradshaw Road should plan for a bridge-related detour beginning next week.

The Virginia Department of Transportation says Route 864, Bradshaw Road, will close to through traffic at 8 a.m. Monday, June 22, for a bridge replacement over a tributary of Mason Creek. The bridge is between Route 874, Plunkett Road, and Route 861, Havens Trail Road.

VDOT says drivers will not be able to cross the bridge between June 22 and Thursday, July 2, but residents will still be able to access homes on either side. Old Catawba Road can be used as a detour for passenger traffic, but VDOT says truck traffic will not be allowed because Old Catawba Road is not passable for large trucks.

  • What to know: Electronic message boards will alert motorists to the temporary closure.
  • Truck note: Trucks can use Bradshaw Road from the Ironto side for access to the landfill and Watkins Market, but will need to return the same way.
  • Reopen target: VDOT lists the road as scheduled to reopen at about 5:30 p.m. Thursday, July 2, 2026.

Drivers should check 511 or VDOT updates before travel because bridge and detour schedules can shift with weather or field conditions.
