Danville residents considering a run for local office have one week left to file for full-term City Council and School Board seats on the November 3, 2026 general election ballot.
The city registrar's candidate page says required forms for full-term races must be filed at the General Registrar's Office, 530 Main Street, 1st Floor, Suite 100, by 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 16, 2026. Candidate packets are available from the registrar's office between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Danville says candidates need at least 125 signatures from registered city voters to have their name placed on the ballot, and recommends submitting at least 175 signatures. Candidates running in the special election for a City Council term expiring December 31, 2028, have a separate filing deadline of 5 p.m. Friday, August 14, 2026.
- What to know: The June 16 deadline applies to full-term City Council and School Board candidates.
- Where to file: General Registrar's Office, 530 Main Street, 1st Floor, Suite 100, Danville.
- Why it matters: Filing windows determine who appears on the ballot before voters ever reach early voting or Election Day.
Prospective candidates should use the official candidate bulletin and election forms, then confirm campaign-finance reporting requirements through the Virginia Department of Elections before the filing deadline.
