Guilford homeowner assistance grant opens Aug. 16 to all eligible homeowners

guilfordcountync.gov | Aug 15, 2026 5:58 PM

Guilford County's one-time Low-Income Homeowner Assistance Grant expands to all eligible homeowners on Sunday, Aug. 16, 2026, after an initial application window for residents age 65 and older.

Applications will remain open through Saturday, Oct. 31. The county says eligible households can earn up to 80% of area median income, ranging from $53,200 for a one-person household to $100,350 for an eight-person household. Grant amounts are based on the difference between county property taxes paid in tax years 2021 and 2025.

Applicants must own and occupy a Guilford County home as their primary residence, have owned it for at least five consecutive years, be responsible for the property taxes and have a 2025 tax value of $250,000 or less. The county also requires no outstanding liens, assessments or delinquent taxes and says applicants cannot have received county tax assistance on the 2025 bill.

Online applications are due by midnight Oct. 31. Paper applications are available at Guilford County DSS offices at 1203 Maple St. in Greensboro and 325 E. Russell Ave. in High Point; DSS offices accept paper applications until 5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 30, after which applicants can use the secure drop box. Details are available at GuilfordCountyNC.gov/HomeownerAssistance, or by calling 336-641-6336.
