Greensboro West Market lane closures begin for crosswalk repair

Greensboro transportation officials say lane closures begin at 9 a.m. Wednesday, May 20, 2026, on West Market Street between Greene Street and Elm Street.

The closure is tied to crosswalk repair work at West Market and Elm as part of the Greene Street streetscape project. The city notice says the lane impacts are expected to continue until Friday, May 22, depending on weather and material or equipment availability.

Drivers moving through downtown should expect delays around the work area and use alternate streets when possible. The affected blocks sit close to city offices, downtown businesses, and regular commuter paths.

The Greensboro desk will keep the item on the transportation watch list through the end of the work window because short downtown closures can create delivery, parking, and pedestrian routing changes beyond the immediate intersection.
