A man was killed early Thursday when his car was split in two in a crash in Johnston County, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.

Troopers identified the driver as 33-year-old Nathan Lawrence Hudson of Willow Spring. Investigators say Hudson was driving a 1996 Lexus on N.C. 210 near Angier when the car ran off the road and struck a tree, tearing the vehicle apart. Hudson died at the scene.
