A pursuit that began in Franklin County after a driver allegedly attempted to pass a school bus ended Friday afternoon in the Bassett area, where deputies arrested the suspect after he fled on foot.
Henry County Sheriff Wayne Davis said the incident began shortly after 4 p.m. when Franklin County sheriff’s deputies on patrol saw a white Toyota pickup truck attempt to pass a school bus.
When deputies tried to stop the vehicle for the traffic violation, the driver allegedly fled.
The pursuit continued into Henry County, where local deputies assisted Franklin County authorities.
Sheriff Davis said the vehicle traveled along Rosemount Road before circling back and entering railroad tracks.
The pickup truck traveled some distance along the tracks before coming to a stop.
The driver then fled on foot into a building, according to Davis.
Henry County and Franklin County deputies, along with a Franklin County Sheriff’s Office K-9, apprehended the suspect.
The suspect was taken into custody and did not appear to be injured, Sheriff Davis said.
One Henry County deputy was transported to an emergency room with what Davis described as a severe leg injury, most likely a serious lower-leg fracture.
The sheriff said the injury occurred during the pursuit.
Davis said the suspect was wanted on numerous outstanding felony warrants, including weapons- and firearms-related charges, as well as charges involving methamphetamine, fentanyl and probation violations.
The sheriff said the suspect is expected to face charges in Franklin County related to the pursuit, along with additional charges in Henry County.
The investigation remains ongoing.
