Crime Scene Could Keep Fayette Street Closed for Hours After Early Morning Shooting, Police Chief Tells Star News
Fayette Street in Martinsville could remain closed for a significant portion of Saturday as investigators continue processing the scene of an early morning shooting that left two people injured.
Martinsville Police Chief Chad Rhoads told Star News that Fayette Street could be closed for a good part of the day while detectives and crime scene personnel collect evidence and document the scene.
The shooting was reported around 4:14 a.m. Saturday in the 400 block of Fayette Street.
According to emergency dispatch information, two people were shot. A male was initially reported to be unresponsive, while a 22-year-old woman suffered a gunshot wound to the leg. AirCare was called to transport the woman for additional medical treatment.
The conditions of the victims have not yet been officially updated by authorities.
Multiple agencies responded to the incident, including the Martinsville Police Department, Henry County Sheriff's Office, and Virginia State Police, as the investigation got underway.
Motorists are encouraged to avoid the area and seek alternate routes while the investigation continues.
