Driving Dispute Ends With One Dead in Roanoke Shooting

ROANOKE, Va. — What apparently started as a dispute on the road ended with one person dead and another in police custody Thursday evening.

The Roanoke Police Department responded to a reported shooting around 5:27 p.m. September 3 in the 3500 block of Windsor Road SW.

When officers arrived, they found a person suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say the shooting appears to have grown out of an altercation that began while the people involved were driving in the area.

According to investigators, the dispute continued until the vehicles stopped and the situation escalated into a confrontation.

And that's when things went from road rage to deadly.

Officers detained the other individual involved and recovered a firearm at the scene, police said.

Detectives later interviewed the person who was detained and consulted with the Roanoke City Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office regarding the circumstances surrounding the shooting.

At this point, police have not announced any charges.

The investigation remains active as detectives work to determine exactly what happened before the gun was fired.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact the Roanoke Police Department at 540-344-8500.

A disagreement behind the wheel ended with someone losing their life — another reminder that road rage can turn deadly in a matter of seconds.
