MARTINSVILLE SPEEDWAY MOURNS SHERIFF STEVE DRAPER: ‘HE WILL BE MISSED’
MARTINSVILLE, Va. — The tributes continue to pour in for Martinsville Sheriff Steve Draper, with Martinsville Speedway remembering the longtime sheriff as not only a supporter of the track, but a friend.
In a statement Monday, Martinsville Speedway said it was saddened by Draper’s death and reflected on his longtime connection to the historic racing venue.
“Sheriff Draper was a longtime supporter of our track, and we appreciate his many years of service and friendship. He will be missed,” the speedway said.
Draper’s relationship with Martinsville Speedway was another part of his deep connection to the community he served.
For years, the sheriff was a familiar presence around Martinsville, including at major events at the speedway, where law enforcement plays an important role in helping keep large crowds safe.
Draper’s death has prompted an outpouring of condolences from residents, law enforcement agencies, local officials and organizations throughout the Martinsville-Henry County community.
The speedway joins those remembering Draper not simply for the badge he wore, but for the friendships he built during his years of service.
A local sheriff, a longtime supporter of the track — and a friend to many.
