Martinsville Speedway Turns Into a Classroom for 65 Patrick Henry Elementary Fifth Graders

MARTINSVILLE, Va. — Martinsville Speedway traded a little racing action for hands-on learning as 65 fifth graders from Patrick Henry Elementary School visited the historic track for a day focused on science, engineering and racing.

The students got a chance to ask questions during a Q&A session with NASCAR driver Brenden “Butterbean” Queen and Martinsville Speedway President Clay Campbell.

The visit also included some friendly competition, with students taking part in RC car racing on the speedway’s frontstretch.

The experience gave students an opportunity to explore how science and engineering play a role in motorsports while enjoying a behind-the-scenes look at one of Virginia’s most recognizable racing venues.

For the fifth graders, it was a school day with a little more horsepower than usual!
