New Sheriff in Town: Billy Parker Takes the Badge as Rockingham County's Top Lawman

A new chapter has begun in Rockingham County law enforcement as Billy Parker has officially been sworn in as the county's new sheriff.

Parker succeeds Sheriff Sam Page, who retired after 28 years of service, making him the longest-serving sheriff in Rockingham County history.

The transition marks the end of an era for the Sheriff's Office. During his nearly three decades in office, Page led the agency through major criminal investigations, natural disasters, technological advancements, and significant growth while earning a reputation as one of North Carolina's most recognizable sheriffs.

Following Page's retirement, Colonel Jason Hutchins served as the agency's interim leader until Parker officially took the oath of office.

Now, Parker assumes command of the Rockingham County Sheriff's Office with the responsibility of leading deputies, detention staff, and civilian employees while continuing to provide law enforcement services across the county.

The swearing-in ceremony officially transferred leadership of one of North Carolina's largest sheriff's offices to Parker, who now begins his first term as sheriff.

As Rockingham County welcomes its new sheriff, residents are also saying goodbye to an historic tenure. Sam Page leaves office as the county's longest-serving sheriff, while Billy Parker now begins writing the next chapter in the Sheriff's Office's history.
