OFF DUTY, ARRESTED, FIRED — HENRY COUNTY DEPUTY’S MYRTLE BEACH TRIP ENDS BADLY
A trip to Myrtle Beach turned into a trip out of a job for a Henry County Sheriff’s Office deputy.
Christopher Michael Shaver, who was assigned to the Corrections Division/Adult Detention Center, was arrested July 23, 2026, in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, according to the Henry County Sheriff’s Office.
Shaver was arrested by the South Carolina Highway Patrol and charged with driving under the influence and leaving the scene of an accident.
The deputy was off duty at the time of the incident.
Following notification of the arrest, the Henry County Sheriff’s Office said it took immediate administrative action. Shaver was terminated within hours of the incident.
The agency said the matter is also being addressed in accordance with applicable Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services requirements regarding decertification.
The Sheriff’s Office emphasized that the actions of one employee do not represent the men and women who serve Henry County every day.
“These incidents do not reflect the conduct or professionalism demonstrated every day by the men and women who serve the County of Henry County and its residents,” the agency said.
The criminal charges remain under the jurisdiction of South Carolina authorities and the court system.
