Targeted Assault Under Investigation at Smith River Sports Complex, Sheriff Says No Threat to the Public

HENRY COUNTY, Va. — The Henry County Sheriff's Office is investigating an male assault that occurred Tuesday morning at the Smith River Sports Complex.

Henry County Sheriff Wayne Davis told Star News that the investigation is in its early stages, but detectives believe the victim and the suspect know each other.

"We believe this was a targeted attack and have no reason to believe there is any threat to the community," Sheriff Davis said.

Henry County Public Safety responded to the scene to evaluate the victim but he refused medical treatment.

Investigators are working to determine the circumstances surrounding the assault and are continuing to gather information.

No additional details, including the identities of those involved or whether any charges have been filed, were immediately available. .
