The operator of a Rocky Mount, North Carolina tax return business has pleaded guilty to helping steal nearly $4 million from the government through fraudulent returns, federal prosecutors say.

Authorities say 54-year-old Angela Dickens, who ran K&J Tax Service, filed returns packed with false deductions and bogus credits to inflate refunds. Prosecutors put the total loss at about $3.9 million.

Dickens faces sentencing at a later date. The case was investigated by the IRS.
