The Roanoke County Public Schools Career and Technology Center is almost ready for students. The county cut the ribbon on the new space Wednesday along Peters Creek Road, and it takes the place of the current Burton Center for Arts and Technology.
The center boasts two floors of warehouse-sized classrooms, a full commercial kitchen, plumbing labs, a cosmetology program and garages built for full-sized diesel trucks. Students will start learning in the new center in January.
Three more programs are getting started next school year: HVAC, collision repair and dental assisting. The new building is designed to give students hands-on training in trades and technical fields close to home.
