Rockingham County Man Charged With Weapon of Mass Destruction After Deputies Respond to Firearm Disturbance

ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, N.C. — A routine disturbance call involving a man with a firearm turned into a felony weapons case Wednesday after deputies say the weapon had been altered.

The Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office said deputies responded on Aug. 12 to a reported disturbance at a residence on Swallow Road involving a male subject with a firearm.

Deputies quickly arrived at the scene, where Deputy B. Mitchell took the suspect into custody without further incident.

No one was injured during the disturbance, according to the Sheriff's Office.

Investigators identified the suspect as 38-year-old Daniel Allen Tippett, who lives at the address. Deputies also discovered that Tippett had an outstanding Order for Arrest related to a weapons charge.

As the investigation continued, detectives determined that Tippett allegedly brandished an altered firearm during the disturbance.

Tippett was subsequently charged with felony possession of a weapon of mass destruction.

He was taken to the Rockingham County Magistrates Office, where he was given a $50,000 secured bond.

Tippett is scheduled to appear in court on Aug. 25, 2026.

The Sheriff's Office also credited the Reidsville Police Department for responding and assisting deputies during the incident.

No injuries were reported, but what started as a disturbance call ended with an alleged altered firearm, an outstanding arrest order and a serious felony charge.

Tippett is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
