Elderly Stoneville Man Found Safe After Walking Away From Home

STONEVILLE, N.C. — An elderly man who walked away from his Stoneville home Wednesday afternoon was safely located after a multi-agency search involving law enforcement, firefighters and rescue personnel.

The Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office said the man left his residence at 124 Duncan Street around 1 p.m. on Aug. 12 and was reported missing at approximately 2:49 p.m. Authorities said he suffers from a medical condition.

Officers from the Stoneville Police Department and Madison Police Department, along with local fire departments, rescue personnel and the Rockingham County Fire Marshal’s Office, quickly responded and began searching the area.

The man was eventually located on Taylor Road by Madison Rescue Squad Chief John Webb and Roy Stewart, who used an all-terrain vehicle during the search.

Medical personnel evaluated the man at the scene before he was transported to Cone Hospital for additional treatment.

The sheriff’s office credited the coordinated response among the agencies involved for the positive outcome.

Sheriff Billy Parker and the Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office expressed their appreciation to Rockingham County 911 Communications and its telecommunicators, Rockingham County Emergency Management, the Rockingham County Fire Marshal’s Office, Stoneville Police Department, Madison Police Department, Stoneville Fire Station 70, Northwest Fire Station 130 and Madison Rescue.

A potentially frightening afternoon ended with the outcome everyone was hoping for — an elderly man found safe and getting the medical care he needed.
