Willard Takes His Campaign to the Poles: Martinsville Council Candidate Turns Telephone Poles Into Billboards

MARTINSVILLE, Va. — Unhoused Martinsville City Council candidate Adam Willard is taking his campaign message to the streets — and apparently, the telephone poles are getting in on the election, too.

Residents are spotting 8-by-11-inch campaign flyers posted on telephone poles around the city as Willard works to get his name and campaign message in front of voters.

The flyers promote Willard's candidacy for Martinsville City Council and include the required campaign disclaimer at the bottom stating: “Paid and authorized by Adam Willard.”

At a time when candidates are battling for attention on social media, mailboxes and campaign signs, Willard appears to have found another way to make sure his name doesn't get lost in the shuffle.

Nothing says grassroots campaign quite like actually putting the campaign on the grass — or, in this case, the pole.

Whether the flyers become a major part of Willard's campaign strategy remains to be seen, but one thing is certain: Martinsville voters won't have to wonder who Adam Willard is if they keep looking up.
