Henry County Senior Services offers no-cost rides for eligible older adults

Henry County Senior Services is accepting new participants for a transportation program that helps older residents reach medical appointments and other essential destinations when dependable transportation is not available.

The service is open to qualifying Henry County residents age 60 and older. Rides are available for medical appointments in Henry County and Martinsville as well as trips to grocery stores, pharmacies, banks, post offices and nutrition sites. Service runs Monday through Thursday; medical appointments are generally scheduled between 9 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., and residents are encouraged to request rides at least seven business days ahead.

Transportation is door to door. The program is provided at no cost to eligible participants through Older Americans Act funding, although the county says donations are encouraged to help offset fuel and vehicle-maintenance expenses.

Enrollment is handled by phone, with no in-person visit or paperwork required. Residents, caregivers, relatives, churches and health-care providers can start the process by calling 276-634-4644.
