MARTINSVILLE — A free Sunday program at the Martinsville-Henry County Heritage Museum will turn local history toward Leatherwood and the Gravely family, with Desmond Kendrick scheduled to share stories and historical pictures on Oct. 18, 2026.
“Leatherwood & the Gravelys” is set for 3 to 5 p.m. at the museum, 1 East Main Street, Martinsville. The event listing says Kendrick grew up near Leatherwood and heard stories from Gravely descendants and their neighbors.
The presentation is framed around the area’s earlier tobacco-era activity and the question of what stood in places that residents know today. The listing says Kendrick’s storytelling and historical images will help connect those older stories to the buildings and businesses that remain part of the Leatherwood landscape.
Admission is free. The Heritage Museum lists 276-403-5361 as its phone number for visitors who need to confirm access or event details before leaving.
