“You Be the Judge!” South Carolina Residents Push Back as Former Vice Mayor Jennifer Bowles Supporters Offer Sympathy

LANCASTER, S.C. — Sympathy on social media is running into some serious pushback in South Carolina, where residents are questioning supportive comments about former Martinsville Vice Mayor Jennifer Bowles following her arrest in a Home Depot parking lot incident.

Star News has received a video from South Carolina residents that appears to show a vehicle striking multiple parked cars in what looks like a demolition derby — except this wasn't a racetrack.

The incident occurred at the Home Depot on Highway 9 Bypass West in Lancaster, where police reported that a woman drove her vehicle into multiple cars. Officers arrived to find several damaged vehicles before taking the woman into custody.

Bowles reportedly faces 15 charges, including aggravated assault, disorderly conduct and malicious injury to property.

The incident has drawn attention in Martinsville, where Bowles previously served as vice mayor. Former Martinsville City Councilman Chad Martin has publicly urged supporters to stand behind her, writing on Facebook: “Fight for her don't you dare let this stop you better fight for her.”

But the supportive message has not landed well with everyone. South Carolina residents who contacted Star News say the video raises questions about the sympathy being expressed online while the legal case remains unresolved.

The footage offers viewers another look at the reported vehicle damage, but video alone does not establish every detail of what happened before or during the incident. Lancaster police continue to investigate, and the charges remain allegations unless proven in court.

So, what do you think? Watch the video, consider the reported charges and the public response, and make up your own mind. The courtroom will handle the legal questions — social media has already started its own debate.
