VDOT sets Oct. 22 deadline for Route 220 intersection hearing requests in Botetourt County

BOTETOURT COUNTY — The Virginia Department of Transportation is accepting written requests through Oct. 22, 2026, for a public hearing on proposed improvements at the intersection of Route 220, or Roanoke Road, and Route 779, or Catawba Road.

VDOT says the project would extend the Route 220 northbound left-turn lane at Route 779 and close the crossover on Route 220 at Route 779, also identified in the notice as Valley Road.

Project information and a National Environmental Policy Act document are available for review at the VDOT Salem District Office, 731 Harrison Avenue in Salem. The notice lists 540-387-5353, 1-800-FOR-ROAD and TTY/TDD 711 for questions, and asks residents to call ahead to confirm staff availability.

Requests for a public hearing should be sent to Jon Hall at the Salem District Office address by Oct. 22. If VDOT receives a request, the agency says it will post a later notice with the hearing date, time and place. The notice identifies the project as UPC 128661, State Project 0220-011-841, with a listed length of 0.2 mile.
