A Henry County work-zone alert begins today, Tuesday, May 26, as VDOT starts a safety improvement project at Route 930, Dogwood Drive, and Route 58.
The Salem District RoadWatch says Dogwood Drive will be closed to through traffic from Route 58 to Route 932, Laurel Drive, over the summer. The project will widen Dogwood Drive for a new left turn lane onto eastbound Route 58 and add a new right turn lane from westbound Route 58 onto Dogwood Drive.
VDOT says a signed detour will route traffic around the closure using Route 1604, Lakewood Trail, and Route 932, Laurel Drive. Motorists should also expect lane closures in the eastbound and westbound Route 58 lanes during daytime and overnight work windows.
For Martinsville and Henry County commuters, the practical point is to treat this as a summer-long pattern change, not a one-day closure. Rain in the forecast may also slow work or complicate traffic control around the construction area.
