Martinsville residents who missed the June 8 public hearing for the future YMCA site still have a way to submit comments tied to the city's Community Development Block Grant discussion.
The city notice says written comments and grievances connected to the hearing can be submitted until June 23, 2026. The hearing was held at 708 N. Memorial Boulevard, the future YMCA site, to gather public input on local community development and housing needs related to possible CDBG funding.
City officials said information on available funding, eligible activities, benefit requirements for low- and moderate-income residents, displacement planning and Martinsville's prior use of CDBG funds would be part of the public process. Comments can be submitted to Hannah Powell, Interim Director of Community Development, by mail at 55 W. Church St., Martinsville, VA 24112, attention Hannah Powell, or by phone at 276-403-5156. The city also lists hpowell@martinsvilleva.gov for additional information.
- What to know: The meeting has passed, but the comment period remains open through June 23.
- Who is affected: Residents following the YMCA project, housing needs, community-development spending and future use of the Memorial Boulevard site.
- Why it matters: CDBG feedback can shape how public funds are targeted toward community needs, especially for low- and moderate-income residents.
Residents who need communication assistance can use Virginia Relay by dialing 711, and anyone with questions should contact the city before the deadline rather than waiting until the comment period closes.
