Henry County road work closes Mountain View Road, sets Spencer Penn closure

Drivers in Henry County should plan around two VDOT pipe-replacement projects that affect Mountain View Road now and Spencer Penn Road beginning next week.

A portion of Route 1330 (Mountain View Road) at the 240 block has been closed to through traffic since 8 a.m. Monday, July 27. VDOT says the closure is scheduled to continue until no later than 3:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 14, 2026, weather permitting.

The Mountain View detour uses Mountain View Road to Dorothy Drive, Joseph Martin Highway, Stuart Ridge Road and back to Mountain View Road. VDOT says message boards will not be placed at the site because the roadway lacks shoulders suitable for them, so drivers should watch for the signed route and local traffic conditions.

A separate closure is scheduled for Route 949 (Spencer Penn Road) beginning at 8 a.m. Monday, Aug. 3. The road is expected to close to through traffic from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Fridays, with weekends open, while crews replace pipes. The posted detour uses Route 695, also identified as Spencer Penn Road, to Route 58/A.L. Philpott Highway and back to Route 949. VDOT says message boards will be in place and the work is targeted for completion by 5 p.m. Friday, Aug. 14.

Both schedules are weather permitting and can change as field work progresses. Drivers should allow extra time, follow barricades and check Virginia 511 for current travel information before leaving.

Source: Reporting based on the Virginia Department of Transportation’s Salem District weekly traffic alert for July 24-31, 2026, checked July 29, 2026. Completion dates and detours are weather permitting and subject to field updates.
