MOUNT AIRY — A run of concerts and daytime programs will give residents and visitors several ways to spend the second half of August in the city, according to the Surry Arts Council’s 2026 calendar.
The immediate weekend begins with The Extraordinaires at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 14, at the Blackmon Amphitheatre. Saturday’s schedule includes the WPAQ Merry-Go-Round at 11 a.m. at the Historic Earle Theatre, Professor Brower’s lecture at 2 p.m. at the Andy Griffith Museum, and The Pink Slips Band at 7:30 p.m. at Blackmon.
The late-August concert lineup continues with Phatt City on Aug. 21, North Tower Band on Aug. 22, Jim Quick & Coastline on Aug. 27, The Holiday Band on Aug. 28 and On the Border on Aug. 29. Those Blackmon Amphitheatre concerts are scheduled for 7:30 p.m. and are ticketed events.
Organizers advise guests to bring a chair or blanket. Selected beer, wine and food are available at the amphitheatre, while coolers are not permitted. Children under 12 are admitted free to Blackmon Amphitheatre with a guardian who has a ticket or annual pass.
