Rockingham leaders complete statewide emergency training

Rockingham County officials say two county commissioners recently completed the state's updated emergency management training, a preparedness item that matters for Reidsville, Eden, Wentworth and the larger Rockingham corridor.

The county announcement says Commissioners Jeff Kallam and Mark Richardson participated in the "100 Counties Prepared" program on April 9 at the State Emergency Operations Center in Wake County. The training was hosted by the North Carolina Association of County Commissioners in collaboration with North Carolina Emergency Management.

The redesigned program brought county leaders together around disaster coordination, communication and preparedness. Rockingham County says the update placed renewed emphasis on collaboration between elected officials and emergency management professionals, crisis communication strategies and coordination across local, state and federal partners.

For residents, this is not a road closure or immediate weather warning. It is still a public-safety signal because county leadership training affects how quickly local government can coordinate shelters, alerts, public messaging and resource requests during severe weather, infrastructure failures or other regional emergencies.

The county says it remains committed to proactive planning, intergovernmental collaboration and community resilience. Households can use the reminder to make sure emergency notification settings, medication supplies and family communication plans are current before the summer storm season deepens.
