Rockingham boil-water advisory covers county utility customers west of Reidsville

Rockingham County has an active boil-water advisory for county utility customers in parts of southwest Rockingham County after a water main repair and loss of pressure.

The county lists the affected area as Lemons Road, Lemons Loop, Rams Loop, Twin Creeks, Brookfield, NC Highway 65, Ogburn Mill Road, Colly Farm Subdivision and Colly Place Subdivision. The advisory applies only to county utility customers in the listed areas, not to homes on city water or private wells.

Residents in the affected area should bring water to a rolling boil for at least one minute before using it for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing fruits and vegetables, preparing food or giving water to pets. The county says samples are being tested and the advisory will remain in effect until laboratory results confirm the water meets drinking-water standards.

  • What to know: Discard ice made after the advisory was issued and avoid automatic ice makers until the advisory is lifted.
  • Who is affected: County utility customers in the listed southwest Rockingham County areas near the Reidsville and NC 65 corridor.
  • Why it matters: A pressure loss can allow contaminants into a water system, creating a higher risk for infants, older adults, pregnant residents and people with weakened immune systems.

Customers should monitor Rockingham County's emergency notice for a lift notice before returning to normal drinking-water use.
