Roanoke extends recycling service adjustments as city targets April 20 normalization

The City of Roanoke posted a Recycling Service Update on April 9, 2026 saying temporary schedule changes remain in place as Solid Waste teams manage staffing constraints tied to nationwide CDL-driver shortages.

City operations notes said crews are adding Friday and Saturday work while preparing drop-off alternatives and aiming to fully normalize curbside recycling on April 20.

For households across Roanoke and the valley commute shed, the notice is a day-to-day service-impact alert affecting waste timing, route expectations, and short-term disposal planning.

The city also highlighted available drop-off access at Tinker Creek Transfer Station while route recovery actions continue.
