A pair of Triad 14-year-olds are facing more than 120 charges related to a series of vehicle thefts and break-ins, according to the High Point Police Department.
Investigators took a 14-year-old suspect from Lexington and a 14-year-old suspect from Greensboro into custody in connection with dozens of vehicle thefts and break-ins, with the teens charged by juvenile petition and handled by juvenile court services, facing 126 charges in total. Police say they saw an increase in vehicle break-ins and thefts in August, with suspects targeting apartment complexes in the northern part of High Point; in some cases cars were left unlocked with the keys inside. Chief Curtis Cheeks III said officers connected the dots across more than 50 cases, and called it frustrating that teenagers are behind these crimes, urging continued support and investment from families, mentors and coaches so a single bad decision does not define the rest of their lives.
The suspects' names are being withheld because of their ages, and the cases move forward through the juvenile justice system.
