A public hearing on the possible consolidation of three Henry County elementary schools is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Thursday in the Summerlin Meeting Room at the Henry County Administration Building, 3300 Kings Mountain Road in Martinsville.

A legal notice published Oct. 29 said the hearing would gather public comment on plans to consolidate Stanleytown, Campbell Court and Sanville elementary schools. After parents and residents raised concerns on social media, School Board Chairman Teddy Martin told the Bulletin the hearing is part of the board's due diligence in reviewing whether school buildings are being used appropriately given enrollment. At-large board member Jonathan Martin also posted a statement saying there is currently no plan or decision to build a new school or close multiple schools, that any potential changes could be years away, and urging families, staff and community members to attend.

The most recent Virginia School Quality Profiles show Henry County Public Schools had 6,737 students in 2025-26, down from 6,916 in 2024-25 and 6,938 in 2023-24. The latest school-level figures available on the profiles show 249 students at Campbell Court in 2025-26, while Sanville and Stanleytown each had 250 students in 2024-25, the most recent school-level year shown for those campuses. The school system's fiscal 2027 capital improvement plan lists estimated renovations, including additional classrooms, at Sanville for $4.6 million and Stanleytown for $11 million in 2027-28; Campbell Court is not listed in the posted plan, and the district says the estimates are placeholders and the timelines hypothetical.
