— If you were planning to hop on an Amtrak train out of Danville in October, you may want to check the schedule before heading to the station.

Amtrak service through Danville will temporarily pause for nine days in October while major work is performed in the Washington, D.C., area.

The temporary interruption is tied to infrastructure and upgrade work around Washington Union Station, which is undergoing a major modernization project. The work is expected to improve passenger capacity and other portions of the busy rail hub.

For Danville passengers, that means a temporary disruption to the city's passenger rail connection.

The good news?

It's a pause — not the end of the line.

Amtrak service is expected to resume once the work is completed.

So, Danville travelers: before you pack the suitcase, grab the coffee and head for the station, check that October itinerary.

Because the train may be taking a vacation from Danville — at least for a few days.
