Thousands of Piedmont Triad residents are still without power after a series of violent afternoon storms downed trees, power lines and caused structural damage Friday.

The storms hit Guilford, Rockingham and Forsyth counties, and as of Friday evening over 20,000 people were without power in Guilford County alone. By Saturday morning, utility crews had made significant progress, but over 13,000 people across Forsyth, Guilford and Rockingham counties were still without power, with Greensboro suffering the most outages at around 10,000.

Duke Energy crews are working to restore power statewide as the recovery continues.
