Two supplements marketed for dogs are being recalled over potential salmonella contamination, according to a company notice posted by the FDA.
New York-based Fi is recalling the supplements over an ingredient supplied to its manufacturer, which has stopped production while it investigates. Salmonella poses a health risk to both pets and people. The supplements were sold directly to consumers and through Amazon.com and Chewy.com. The notice says salmonella can cause nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal cramps and fever in people, and in rare cases more severe problems; pets may become lethargic with diarrhea, fever and vomiting, and can spread salmonella to people and other animals even while appearing healthy.
People experiencing symptoms should contact a healthcare provider, pet owners should consult a veterinarian, and surfaces that contacted the recalled supplements should be sanitized.
