Henry County drivers have another Bassett-area route change to plan around in early June. In its Salem District RoadWatch for May 22-29, VDOT says a section of Route 683, Meadowood Trail, is scheduled to close to through traffic beginning at 8 a.m. Monday, June 8.
The closure is tied to a pipe replacement at an unnamed tributary to the Bassett Branch. VDOT describes the work zone as 1.5 miles north of Route 687, Preston Road, and 1.7 miles south of Route 627, Hodges Farm Road.
A signed detour will route traffic using Route 683, Route 687 and Route 627 before returning to Meadowood Trail. VDOT says that is the best route for large truck traffic, with the loop covering about 9 miles and taking roughly 13 to 15 minutes.
The work is expected to be finished Wednesday, June 10, weather permitting. For residents, school families, delivery drivers and anyone moving between the Bassett-area secondary roads, the practical move is to treat June 8-10 as a detour window and check 511 before leaving.
