Virginia Western Community College is adding a stronger workforce-training role for advanced manufacturing and industrial technology.
The college announced on July 6, 2026, that it has been designated an NC3 Leadership School through the National Coalition of Certification Centers. Virginia Western says the designation will expand opportunities in applied mechatronics and technical education.
As part of the role, Virginia Western will offer applied mechatronics courses in Applied Fluid Power with Vacuum Technology, Applied Mechanical Systems and Applied PLCs and Smart Sensors. The college highlighted regional employer interest from companies in Rocky Mount, Roanoke, Salem and the broader Valley manufacturing base.
- What to know: NC3 supports stackable industry certifications and train-the-trainer events for instructors.
- Who is affected: Students, incumbent workers, advanced-manufacturing employers, maintenance technicians and workforce-development partners.
- Why it matters: More applied mechatronics training can help local employers fill technical roles tied to automation, industrial controls and equipment maintenance.
Prospective students and employers should follow Virginia Western Workforce Solutions for course timing, eligibility and employer-partnership opportunities.
