Henry County has landed a major logistics reuse project at Patriot Centre Industrial Park.
County officials say Rural King, the farm, home and rural-lifestyle retailer, will invest $40 million to establish a logistics hub in a 500,000-square-foot facility formerly occupied by VF Corporation. The company plans to create 150 new jobs with an average annual wage of about $59,000.
The project puts an existing industrial building back into active use while adding logistics capacity in the Martinsville-Henry County corridor. Henry County said the wage level is above the county's median household income, and the project is supported by state and local incentives.
- What to know: The project includes a $750,000 Commonwealth's Opportunity Fund grant, local support from Henry County and The Harvest Foundation, Virginia Jobs Investment Program workforce support and federal New Markets Tax Credits support.
- Who is affected: Job seekers, industrial-site workers, nearby Patriot Centre employers, workforce partners and local tax-base watchers.
- Why it matters: Reusing a large vacant facility can grow the local employment base without waiting for a new site to be built from the ground up.
Residents looking for employment details should watch Rural King, Henry County and regional workforce channels for hiring timelines as the project moves toward operation.
