Roanoke overnight lane closures return to Orange Avenue on May 20

Roanoke's transportation alert calendar has another overnight closure window on Orange Avenue NE near the Mecca Street NE intersection.

The city says multiple lanes will close from 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 20, 2026, to 6 a.m. Thursday, May 21. Crews scheduled the work overnight to reduce daytime impacts, but the city still warns that drivers may hit delays around the work area.

Motorists are being asked to allow extra travel time and use alternate routes when possible. The city also urged drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians to stay alert for crews and equipment while the work zone is active.

For the Roanoke desk, the alert matters because Orange Avenue is a high-volume east-west connector, and an overnight closure can still affect commuters, late-shift workers, freight movement, and nearby neighborhood access.
