Roanoke school attendance-zone vote heads to May 26 board meeting

Roanoke City Public Schools is moving toward a Tuesday, May 26, 2026, School Board vote on proposed attendance-zone adjustments for the 2026-27 school year.

The district says the first phase is tied to the new Preston Park Elementary School opening in August 2026 and is meant to reduce overcrowding while making better use of available school space. The affected school communities listed by RCPS are Preston Park, Monterey, Round Hill, Lincoln Terrace, and Fallon Park.

District materials say approximately 250 students would be affected in the initial update if the proposal is approved. Families whose school assignment changes would be notified directly through letter, phone call, and email no later than June 4.

For the Roanoke desk, the next date to watch is the May 26 vote. The public feedback window listed by RCPS closed May 18, so the story has shifted from input collection to the board-decision phase.
