Pittsylvania County residents have a final near-term window this week to speak on the county's proposed FY 2026-27 budget before supervisors move toward adoption.
The county's public hearing notice sets the hearing for 7 p.m. Thursday, June 4, 2026, in the Board Meeting Room at 39 Bank Street SE in Chatham. The advertised all-funds budget totals $264,888,922, an increase of about $7.31 million, or 2.84%, from the 2026 adopted budget.
- What to know: The notice says the budget is supported by the 62-cent real estate tax rate adopted April 9.
- Rate watch: County materials also list proposed utility and fee changes, including water and sewer adjustments that would take effect in FY 2027 if adopted.
- Why it matters: The hearing is a direct chance for residents to comment on spending, public safety, schools, utility costs and local services before the new fiscal year begins July 1.
The county notice says the budget cannot be considered for adoption until seven days after the public hearing. Residents who cannot attend should review the posted county documents and contact their supervisor or the county administrator's office before the board takes final action.
