A Waynesboro man was found dead Monday morning after authorities discovered a vehicle partially submerged in Lake Nelson in Arrington.
According to the Nelson County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched to the lake shortly before 7 a.m. Sept. 7, 2026, following a report of a vehicle partially submerged in the water.
Deputies arrived at approximately 7:05 a.m. and found a passenger vehicle in Lake Nelson, about 30 yards from the publicly accessible boat ramp.
Additional emergency resources were called to the scene, including the Virginia State Police Dive Unit and Wintergreen Fire & Rescue's Swift Water Rescue Unit.
With assistance from the responding agencies, the vehicle was eventually removed from the water.
Inside the vehicle, deputies found a man positioned in the driver's seat.
Authorities identified the man as Graham Isaac Bolter of Waynesboro, Virginia.
Bolter's body was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Richmond as part of the ongoing investigation.
The Nelson County Sheriff's Office said no additional details are being released at this time.
Authorities did not provide information regarding how the vehicle entered the lake or the circumstances surrounding Bolter's death.
The Sheriff's Office thanked the Virginia State Police, Wintergreen Fire & Rescue and other local agencies that assisted with the recovery operation.
The investigation remains ongoing.
