— Almost a month after five people were wounded in a shooting outside Virginia State University dormitories, police have made another arrest — and this one comes with a twist.
Ronnell Parham Jr., 21, of Petersburg, was one of the five people shot during the August 15 incident.
Now police say he was also allegedly one of the people doing the shooting.
According to the Chesterfield County Police Department, detectives determined that Parham discharged a firearm from a vehicle during the shooting in the 3300 block of Boisseau Street.
Parham was taken into custody Thursday and transported to the Chesterfield County Jail, where he is being held without bond.
He faces several charges, including:
Willfully discharging a firearm in a public place
Discharging a firearm from a motor vehicle
Use of a firearm in the commission of a felony
Attempted malicious wounding
Police said Parham was transported to an area hospital in critical condition after being shot during the August 15 incident.
He survived.
And now he's sitting in jail facing criminal charges stemming from the same shooting.
Talk about a plot twist.
Investigators also confirmed that Parham is not a student at Virginia State University.
The shooting happened near the VSU dormitories and left five people wounded, sending investigators scrambling to determine exactly what happened and who was responsible.
With Parham's arrest, police have now taken a second suspect into custody in connection with the case.
One thing is becoming increasingly clear:
This wasn't simply a shooting where five innocent bystanders happened to get caught in the middle. Police say at least some of the people wounded were allegedly part of the gunfire themselves.
And apparently, getting shot wasn't enough to keep one alleged participant from now having to explain his side of the story to a judge.
The investigation remains ongoing.
