Law enforcement with the Bertie County Sheriff's Office arrested an Aulander woman after she reportedly left six children unattended.
Sergeant J. Jenkins and Deputy E. Topliss responded Sept. 6 to a residence on Brick Mill Road after a report that six children had been left alone. Authorities contacted the mother, 31-year-old Jocelyn Ranika Joyner, and told her to come home, then placed her in custody when she arrived. Bertie County DSS assisted with the investigation, and the children, ranging from 2 months to 11 years old, were placed with family. Joyner was charged with 12 counts of misdemeanor child abuse and six counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor, and received a $20,000 bond.
Joyner is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
